What we are providing

Non-profit leadership plays a crucial role in improving health equity and health outcomes for historically excluded communities, i.e. Black-Indigenous-People of Color (BIPOC); LGBTQ+ individuals; those with untreated brain health needs; people who are or have been unhoused; and differently abled persons. Achieving these goals requires effective collaboration between the board of directors and executive leadership.

Effective collaboration requires iterative training on best practices to create, adapt, and maintain systems focused on achieving sustainable health equity practices. The board of directors must not only be committed to health equity ideals, but also simultaneously committed to reflecting the communities that they serve. The board sets the tone for the organization by hiring, mentoring, and supporting the executive (e.g., the chief executive officer or executive director).

By working together, the board of directors and executive leadership can create a cohesive and effective approach to improving health equity and health outcomes in the communities they serve.

Board Governance

Roles & Responsibilities

Board Directors best support their Executive with a clear understanding of how they should contribute to the agency's success.

This is through a thorough understanding of Governance, Oversight of the Executive, Treasury Oversight, Fundraising Development, Compliance & Ethics; and Succession Planning for Board Directors and for the Executive.

Strategic Planning

A major activity of a successful Board of Directors is to support their Executive to carry out the consensus objectives of the mission & vision.

The Board must work together and with the Executive to develop, approve, and define success of long-term organizational goals.

Executive Coaching

Board Directors

Experienced and novice board directors benefit from support to harness their skills and resources to support the agency’s mission and vision.

This will include understanding the extent of their roles & responsibilities; governance best practices; collaborative communication styles; promotion of equitable recruitment of board directors and an executive; and maintenance of ethical standards.

Executive Team

Iterative trainings to support the professional and vocational development of current or developing leaders and managers to not only enhance their capacity, but also the capacity of their supervisees. These trainings will focus on decision-making, crisis management, strategic implementation, emotional intelligence, and adaptive communication styles.
